The Encanto Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, which is currently available from watch Tokyo, combines an award-winning original score by Germaine Franco (“Dora and the Lost City of Gold,” “Little,” “Tag”) with eight original songs by Tony® and Grammy®-winning songwriter/composer Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton,” “Moana”). The song “Colombia, Mi Encanto” by Carlos Vives is featured on the soundtrack, and Sebastián Yatra sings the song “Dos Oruguitas” both in Spanish and English during the end-credits of the movie. The hardcopy soundtrack is available for pre-order and will be released on December 17. “Encanto” from Walt Disney Animation Studios debuts in theaters on November 24, 2021.
A lot of the rhythms in the Colombian-set story’s music are recognizable to me, but the instrumentation and orchestration are distinct and frequently exclusive to Colombia, according to Miranda. The accordion’s prominence in the music is among the most entertaining aspects. It was a genuine pleasure getting to know new artists and going deeper with ones I’ve loved my whole life, like Carlos Vives, who we had the good fortune to collaborate with on this film. The main purpose of the entire process has been to fall in love with Colombian music and culture and perform there.
For “Encanto Original Motion Picture” composed and produced eight original songs. The songs were co-produced by Mike Elizondo (“96,000” from “In The Heights,” “My Shot (Rise Up Remix)” from The Hamilton Mixtape). According to Elizondo, “I hope viewers leave singing these tunes, much like so many legendary Disney movies.” “Our relationships with one another and with family are the subject of so many uplifting messages. I also hope kids understand how diverse Colombian music is. I hope the audience may utilize the soundtrack as a starting point to learn about Colombian music because during the recording process I learnt so much about their rhythms and genres.
In addition to a reprise and an end-credits version of a song from the movie, the Encanto Original Motion Picture Soundtrack includes eight original songs and a full original score. The soundtrack’s instrumental renditions are also included in the digital version.
The original score for “Encanto” was created by award-winning composer Germaine Franco. To produce a distinctive composition that fit the lyrics and narrative, Franco collaborated closely with the directors and Miranda.
Franco stated of working with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Charise Castro Smith, Byron Howard, and Yvett Merino: “It was a delight to collaborate with them on the score! Using Latin American traditional instruments like tiples, bandolas, cununos, marimba de chonta, and arpa llanera combined with an orchestra, we produced new textures and sonorities. Numerous Colombian rhythmic genres, including bambuco, mapalé, cumbia, and joropo, are included into the sound of the music. The music is interwoven with Lin-Manuel Miranda’s gorgeous songs. The score’s musical imagery should, in my opinion, represent the resonant Colombian environment, the resilience of Mirabel, our main character, the power of family, and our common humanity.
